Celebrating the Life of Helen Forbes (Clark) Goodwin

On July 5th 2024, Helen Forbes (Clark) Goodwin moved

from her earthly home at Laurel Crest Retirement

Community, West Columbia, South Carolina, to her

Heavenly Home on the corner of Glory Street and Mercy

Boulevard in Heaven. Prior to her departure from this

earth, Helen had also resided for a short time at the

Columbia Presbyterian Community in Lexington, South

Carolina.

Helen was born on April 24, 1934, to John and Ada Clark.

She grew up in Uxbridge, England, and was one of 6

children. In the 1950s, Helen followed her brother, Colin,

to America to attend Columbia Bible College and earned

her BA Degree in Bible. Following graduation, she

served her Lord and Savior as a missionary in India for

18 months, followed by 5 years in Kenya, Africa. During

her years as a missionary, Helen returned to England

multiple times. While visiting, she worked as a Bus

Conductress and taught English to Kenyan Asians.

While attending Columbia Bible College, she met

her late husband, Coleman Goodwin. Following her

graduation from Columbia Bible College, they continued

to correspond until Coleman traveled to Kenya to

propose. Upon her completion of her missionary term in

Kenya, Helen and Coleman married and returned to the

U.S. They had one son, Mark Goodwin. For many years,

she was an active member of Columbia Evangelical

Church, followed by Hope Church. She was known by her

love for our Lord Jesus and her ministry to others.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Coleman

Goodwin, son, Mark Goodwin, and siblings: sister, Jean

(Clark) Kerridge, brother, Colin P. Clark, sister, Audrey

(Clark) Twitchen and brother, Duncan Clark. She is

survived by her youngest sister, Rosemay (Clark) Healey;

three grandchildren, William, Rebekah and Brantin

Goodwin, and several nieces and nephews.

To help advance the understanding of Parkinson’s

Disease, Helen donated her body to USC School of

Medicine.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Helen’s

memory to Hope Church or to Gideons International.
