What We Believe
We hold to the historic Christian faith — the gospel of grace that has been proclaimed, defended, and passed down through the centuries.
The following statements summarize the core convictions we hold at Hope Church Columbia. They are rooted in Scripture, shaped by the historic confessions of the Christian church, and held with humility. We invite your questions — reach us at Info@hopecola.org.
The Holy Scriptures
The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.
The Holy Scriptures
The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.
We believe that the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original manuscripts, and the supreme and final authority in all matters of faith and life. Scripture alone (sola Scriptura) is our rule for belief and practice.
God — The Trinity
One God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
God — The Trinity
One God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe in one God, the Creator and Sustainer of all things, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal, co-eternal, and fully divine, each distinct yet perfectly united in essence, purpose, and will.
Jesus Christ
The eternal Son of God, fully human and fully divine.
Jesus Christ
The eternal Son of God, fully human and fully divine.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became man, being born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for sin, rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return in glory to judge the living and the dead.
The Holy Spirit
The Spirit who convicts, regenerates, indwells, and sanctifies believers.
The Holy Spirit
The Spirit who convicts, regenerates, indwells, and sanctifies believers.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who convicts the world of sin, regenerates those who believe, indwells every believer at the moment of salvation, and progressively sanctifies the believer throughout life. The Spirit empowers believers for service and gifts the church for ministry.
Humanity & Sin
All people are created in God's image but are fallen in sin.
Humanity & Sin
All people are created in God's image but are fallen in sin.
We believe that God created humanity in His image, male and female, and declared creation very good. Through Adam's disobedience, sin entered the world, and all people are born with a sinful nature, are spiritually dead, and stand under the judgment of God. People are unable to save themselves by their own efforts or merit.
Salvation
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
Salvation
Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
We believe that salvation from sin and its consequences is a gracious gift of God, received through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. God justifies the ungodly by declaring them righteous on the basis of Christ's substitutionary death and resurrection. This salvation is not earned by works, but produces genuine transformation and good works as its fruit.
The Church
The local church is the visible expression of the Body of Christ.
The Church
The local church is the visible expression of the Body of Christ.
We believe that the universal Church is the body and bride of Christ, composed of all who have been redeemed. The local church is a community of believers gathered together to worship God, observe the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper, grow together in discipleship, and reach the world with the gospel.
Baptism & The Lord's Supper
Ordinances that picture and proclaim the gospel.
Baptism & The Lord's Supper
Ordinances that picture and proclaim the gospel.
We believe in two ordinances given to the church by Christ: baptism and the Lord's Supper. Believer's baptism by immersion is a public declaration of faith and identification with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection. The Lord's Supper is a memorial of Christ's sacrifice, a proclamation of His death until He comes, and a celebration of the new covenant.
Last Things
Christ will return, the dead will be raised, and God will make all things new.
Last Things
Christ will return, the dead will be raised, and God will make all things new.
We believe in the personal, bodily return of Jesus Christ. At the resurrection, believers will receive glorified bodies and dwell with God forever; those who rejected Christ will face eternal judgment. God will create a new heaven and a new earth, and His kingdom will have no end.
