Crown Him Lord of All
Pastor Don Burnett returns from a month away and preaches Colossians 1:13-20, which he calls the most concentrated teaching about Jesus Christ in all of Scripture. The false teachers in Colossae didn't deny Jesus; they dethroned him, and we can do the same in our own lives. Before turning to the Beatitudes and kingdom citizenship, he looks at the King himself: that in everything he might be preeminent (v. 18). Jesus is worthy to be crowned Lord of all because he is our Savior, who delivered us from the dominion of darkness, transferred us into his kingdom, redeemed us and forgave our sins (vv. 13-14); because he is the Creator, the image of the invisible God, before all things and holding all things together (vv. 15-17; Hebrews 1; John 1:18; John 14:9); because he is the head of the church, the firstborn from the dead, in whom all the fullness of God dwells (vv. 18-19); and because he is the beloved Son who reveals God as our Father and invites us into adoption as sons and daughters (v. 13).
