What Forgiveness Is

Continuing from the parable of the unforgiving servant in Matthew 18, Don Burnett offers practical descriptions of biblical forgiveness. He shows that every child of God can forgive by drawing on God's grace, that forgiveness can be instant or a process, and that we may need to forgive others, ourselves, and even work through our anger at God (Psalm 73). He then explains what forgiveness is not: it is not forgetting, excusing the wrong, waiting for an apology, no longer feeling pain, a one-time event, automatic trust, or reconciliation. He also explains what it is: releasing a debt, giving up revenge, and bearing the image of God's character and grace.
