Why Jesus Spoke in Parables
Hope Church gathered for worship, three baptisms, and the next step in the parable series as Don Burnett opened Matthew 13. After Ken had taught the parable of the soils, Don explains why Jesus shifted to parables: they both reveal the kingdom to those with ears to hear and act as a gracious warning to hearts that have already grown hard. He then sketches the eight kingdom parables in the chapter and the chiastic pattern that holds them together—sower and soils balanced by the householder’s treasure, wheat and weeds by the net, mustard seed and leaven by the hidden treasure and pearl. The invitation is simple: read Matthew 13:1–52, listen for what the King is saying about His kingdom, and come ready to go deeper next week.
